Participants from The Winnipeg Foundation’s Youth in Philanthropy program held a meeting at the WAG on January 15. Mayor Brian Bowman welcomed the Grade 11 and 12 students, who then met with WAG Director & CEO, Dr. Stephen Borys. Borys described the Inuit Art Centre and how it will connect Northern and Southern students through virtual fieldtrips and other programs.
While at the WAG, some of the young philanthropists toured the gallery, explored the Inuit art collection and exhibitions, participated in hands-on art activities, and shared their thoughts on the impact of art- including a suggestion that the WAG develop student exchanges with schools in the North.
Here are a few other things they had to say:
“Art brings people together by telling a story.”
“It really helps to see another culture through art.”
“[The Inuit Art Centre] is incredibly important because art allows students to experience what they’re learning in class.”
